A castor oil pack is an external application of castor oil to the body. Studies have shown that it benefits the lymph system, has anti-inflammatory properties and generally improves elimination and circulation.

Materials needed:

Castor Oil (Preferably cold pressed) Muslin Cloth or cotton flannel
A plastic bag
A hot water bottle or a wheat bag An old sheet/blanket & towels

Using the pack

Lay an old blanket/sheet on the bed.

Put the wheat bag in the microwave for 2mins (800w) or make a hot water bottle – do not overfill or use boiling hot water.

Place muslin cloth/flannel on a plastic bag & saturate with the castor oil.

Place the muslin cloth/flannel over the required area on the skin (for general use it should be placed over the liver located on the right side of the body, however it can be used elsewhere) with a plastic bag on top.

Place the wheat bag/hot water bottle on to the plastic bag with an old towel over the top.

Keep the pack on for at least 30 minutes to 1 1⁄2 hours; this is one treatment where more may be better (or take advice of practitioner).

Use the pack when you are best able to relax without distraction. This is an ideal time to meditate or listen to relaxing music. Decide where in your home you will be doing the pack. Set it up so you will be comfortable with a pillow under your head. Some oil will drip from the pack so it is important to protect bedding, cushions or pillows (some people prefer to use the pack undressed in order to avoid staining clothes).
